Abia State Government To Employ More 5000 Teachers In The Recruitment Exercise
Abia State Government says it would employ 5,000 or more teachers at the end of the ongoing recruitment exercise.
Briefing Journalists at the government house , the commissioner for information, Okey Kanu said a total of 29,797 applications were received before the shutdown of the portal on February 12, adding that 9, 371 applications were shortlisted and would undergo a CBT test as earlier announced, while those who pass would be invited for oral interview and if successful, would be hired.
He restated that the process has been designed to be transparent and merit based.
Continuing, Kanu informed that Exco has reintroduced the study of history in its schools with immediate effect and also made Igbo Language compulsory subject from primary to SS2 level.
Prince Kanu reminded that Governor Alex Otti would unveil a major educational programme transformation initiative titled “Imagining Education in Abia State” aimed at revolutionizing the education system.

In another development,
the government of Abia State has approved that the Umunneato general hospital be upgraded to a specialist hospital.
The commissioner for information, Okey Kanu, said the upgrade will come with renovation and retrofitting, which, when completed, would then be known as”Abia Specialist hospital.”
According to him, this brings to three the number of specialist hospitals in Abia, one in each of the 3 senatorial zones.
He used the medium to advise those who peddle falsehood all in the name of opposition among the public to desist from such unwholesome act, reminding that the state government reserves the right of prosecution if they run foul of the law.
