Abia State  Takes A stand As  Governor Otti Declares Zero Tolerance For Kidnapping And All Shades Of Violent  Crimes

In response to rising insecurity and a wave of recent criminal incidents,including the brazen attack on a serving commissioner—Governor Alex Otti has restated his administration’s determined commitment to stamping out all forms of criminality across Abia State.

Speaking during his Monthly Media Parley with Journalists tagged “Governor Otti Speaks to Abians” held at Banquet Hall, Government House, Umuahia, the Governor minced no words in declaring a zero-tolerance policy against kidnapping, armed robbery, fraud, and other criminal activities, particularly in the troubled Umunneochi and Isuikwuato Local Government Areas.

“We will not sit by and allow criminals take over any part of our state,” Governor Otti asserted. “We are activating every necessary security measure to restore peace, especially in flashpoint areas like Umunneochi.”

The Governor’s firm declaration comes on the heels of mounting public concern over increased cases of kidnappings , killings and violent attacks on major roads, particularly around Umunneochi, a region that has witnessed a disturbing surge in criminal activity in recent months.

Turning to healthcare, Governor Otti announced the completion and commissioning of several of the 200 Primary Health Centres currently undergoing transformation across the state. These renovations, he said, are aimed at making quality healthcare more accessible to all Abians, especially in rural communities.

He also revealed that upgrade work is in progress at major General Hospitals in Okeikpe, Umunneochi, Arochukwu, and Okpuala Ngwa, with plans to eventually touch all 948 Primary Healthcare Centres in the state—one per political ward.

“Health is wealth. We are committed to ensuring that no community is left behind in accessing quality medical care,” the Governor noted.

He added that Phase II of the renovation at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital in Aba has begun, with the installation of cutting-edge medical equipment to serve the state’s growing health demands.

Meanwhile, preparatory infrastructure—including roads and streetlights—for the proposed Abia Medical City has been completed, with a grand launch expected soon.

On education, over 9,000 teachers are to be engaged.In a sweeping reform of the state’s education system, Governor Otti disclosed that 5,394 newly recruited teachers are currently undergoing orientation and will soon be deployed to various schools.

Additionally, 4,000 more teachers will be recruited to close critical manpower gaps in the sector, bringing the total number of new hires to over 9,000.

“We cannot speak of development without a functional education system. These teachers will help rebuild the future of Abia,” he said.

Recognizing the deteriorating condition of public libraries in the state, Governor Otti announced plans to revive the Abia State Library System, including the establishment of modern libraries in all 17 Local Government Areas. A Library Board will be constituted to drive the vision and ensure sustainability.

Governor Otti’s wide-ranging updates showcased an administration focused not only on tackling insecurity but also on building lasting systems in healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

As fear and uncertainty grip parts of Abia, the Governor’s message is loud and clear: Criminality will not be tolerated. Development will not be stalled. Abia must move forward.
