Abia Deputy Governor Applauds NTA Umuahia’s Digital Drive

In a show of strong government-media partnership, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has commended the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Umuahia for embracing digital transformation and working to revive its operations across the state. The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the NTA management team to the Deputy Governor at the Government House, Umuahia.

In this move that signals robust support for media development, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu,  hailed NTA Umuahia’s forward-thinking efforts to reposition itself as a modern, digitally-driven broadcaster.

Engr. Emetu expressed the state’s appreciation for NTA’s renewed commitment to responsible and innovative journalism.

The Deputy Governor underscored the Alex Otti-led administration’s dedication to the welfare of all residents of Abia, emphasizing that good governance includes ensuring that the media is empowered to operate effectively.

“We recognize the essential role the media plays in showcasing government achievements and communicating with the public,” he said.

“NTA, being a key media institution, will be provided with the right atmosphere to function optimally.”

Engr. Emetu acknowledged the operational challenges raised by the NTA Umuahia team and assured them that their concerns would be addressed.

He promised government’s intervention in providing improved security, better road access to their premises, and environmental sanitation around their facility.

“We will look into every issue presented here today,” he assured. “This government is intentional about providing support for institutions that serve the people.”

Earlier, the General Manager of NTA Umuahia, Engr. Ede Onobu commended Governor Alex Otti and Deputy Governor , Emetu for running an administration rooted in transparency, accountability, and people-centered programs. He described the Otti-led government as a shining example of purposeful leadership in Nigeria.

Engr. Onobu explained that the purpose of the visit was to seek the state government’s backing in NTA Umuahia’s quest to reposition as a modern, responsive, and fast-growing public broadcaster.

While appreciating the state’s ongoing support, he also presented a number of operational challenges facing the station. These included insecurity of equipment and property caused by scavengers, unhygienic surroundings due to persistent refuse dumping, and deteriorating access roads leading to the station’s office.

“These issues hamper our efficiency and limit our ability to serve the public with the quality and speed expected of a national broadcaster,”

Engr. ,however,reiterated that with government assistance, NTA Umuahia can be restored to its full potential as a beacon of public service broadcasting in the state.

The visit concluded on a hopeful note, with Engr. Emetu and his team maintaining their commitment to creating a conducive environment for media operations in Abia.

Members of the Deputy Governor’s A ides and the NTA management team were present, fostering a tone of collaboration and shared purpose.

This renewed government-media synergy signals a new chapter for NTA Umuahia and reflects the broader vision of the current administration to build strong institutions that are responsive to the needs of the people and capable of telling the Abia story to the world.
