“ABIA AIRPORT PROJECT: Economic Development Committee Embarks on Investment Sensitization Exercise To Land Owners
The members of the Nsulu Airport Community Economic Development Committee, led by the Chairman, a seasoned banker and Financial expert, Mr. Fidel Ibeabuchi, have embarked on a sensitization exercise for Landowners in Nsulu Host Communities
The committee’s objective was to guide landowners on effective utilization of the compensation being paid to them by the Abia State Government for the acquisition of their land for the airport project and to guide them on investment opportunities available to them, so that they don’t see the compensation as an opportunity for frivolous lifestyle, rather to use it and invest now and for the future.
The team visited Umuomainta Nbawsi and Ubaha Nsulu, engaging with host communities and landowners on optimal ways to use the compensation payments and assured them of continued interaction by helping them to make decisions that will secure their future and that of their children.
During the interactive sessions, the committee members encouraged landowners without bank accounts to reach out to them and promised to facilitate account opening by sending bank officials to their communities to help them with account opening documentation.
The Chairman, Fidel Ibeabuchi emphasized the importance of wise investment, while Dr. Chukwuma Offor, a Chartered Accountant and member of the team advised the people to plan carefully and cautiously.
The committee further assured the communities that their visits would continue to ensure proper planning and investment.
In response, Mr. Orji Maduabuchi, Chairman of the Land Committee from Ubaha and Mrs. Joy Chioma Ogbonna, a landowner, expressed gratitude and commitment to utilizing the funds wisely and thanked Abia state government led by Dr. Alex Otti for the project, the Chief of staff Dr. Caleb Ajagba and the team for thinking through on how to guide them on investment opportunities, that will enable them use their monetary compensation wisely.
The committee finally promised the communities they visited that they will continue to provide them with support in the areas of capacity building trainings and advisory on investment management and entrepreneurship, towards ensuring strategic and sustainable economic development of the communities, leveraging the economic benefits the airport project will bring to the host communities.
