The Head of Service, Abia State, Mr. Benson Ojeikere has called on civil/public servants and stakeholders to support and strengthen the civil service for effective service delivery and good governance.

Mr. Ojeikere made the call while receiving in audience some retired Permanent Secretaries, in Umuahia, stated that a well-functioning civil service is the backbone of any successful Government.

The Head of Service, emphasized the crucial role the civil service plays in driving governance and delivering quality services to citizens adding that with the support of civil servants, retired workers and stakeholders, the government can achieve its vision of building a world-class civil service.

The Head of Service in addition, said that the government will welcome innovative ideas and initiatives that will ensure a corrupt – free service.

Earlier, Chief Okechukwu Ihedioha said they were on the visit to congratulate him on his elevation as Abia State Head of Service, and requested that government looked into the plight of Pensioners particularly, those abruptly retired as a result of the government policy.

Contributing, Mrs Ijeoma Okere was emphatic that government should invest in the training and retraining of staff for optimal results.

A major highlight of the visit was the offering of prayers for the government and the people.

In a related development, following the Abia must be clean policy of Governor Alex Otti led administration a “Zero Trash, Zero Weed” initiative has been introduced in the civil/public service.

The initiative, which was made known by the Head of Service, Benson Ojeikere, seeks to eradicate trash and weeds from all government offices and premises adding that it will not only ensure a conducive and healthy environment but will enhance productivity.

Ojeikere who enjoined the workers to embrace the measure also admonished them to ensure proper disposal of waste and regular cleaning of government offices, premises as well as their environments.

He however, urged civil/public servants to take pride in their job and renew their mind set towards government activities.
