Abia NAWOJ Rejects Purported New Executives Of Abia NUJ

The attention of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Abia State chapter has been drawn to the purported inauguration of new executives of the Abia State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Abia NAWOJ is shocked and expresses dismay that after journalists in the State waited for more than seven hours at the NUJ Secretariat, #66 Aba Road, Umuahia, for the conduct of election of new executives of the Union, pictures were posted on the Union’s platform showing the swearing in of a new executive.
We see this as a slap to our most esteemed profession, an affront on Abia journalists and a sham coming from those who profess to be the conscience and mirror of the society.
To this effect, the purported inauguration of new executives is unacceptable to us and we distance ourselves from them.
Abia NAWOJ therefore call on the National Body to come and conduct election in accordance with the Union’s Constitution where every member will exercise their franchise and acceptable executive elected without an imposed chairman.

We also call on the State government, House of Assembly and general public not to recognise or have any official dealings with the purported executive, which was allegedly inaugurated without any pro per election that should have preceded any form of swearing in.
NAWOJ therefore declares as illegal, unconstitutional and unacceptable the so-called desperate executive, led by Victor Ndukwe, because it does not have the mandate of the members of the union, given that there was no election in the Abia Council of NUJ.
