Governor Alex Otti Inaugurates Boards Of Parastatals, Charges Members On Accountability And Efficient Service Delivery

Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has inaugurated Chairmen and members of various boards of parastatals and agencies in the State, charging them to deploy their wealth of experience towards advancing the development of Abia State.
The boards inaugurated include the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) Management Board, the Governing Council of the Public Private Partnership and Investment Promotion Office, Abia State Rural Access Roads Agency, Abia State Roads Fund, Abia State Lottery Board, and the Abia State Library Board.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Governor Otti said the exercise was aimed at strengthening institutional leadership across the various agencies and parastatals of government.
According to the Governor, the inauguration represents a deliberate effort towards deepening accountability and enhancing efficiency in governance.
“This event is about deepening a culture of accountability and improving the tone and structure of efficiency across several front lines.
“It is also about strengthening the capacity for the implementation of government policies and programmes with a view to improving the social and economic outlook of the State,” Governor Otti stated.
The Governor advised the newly inaugurated board members to avoid unhealthy rivalry and conflicts with the management teams of their respective agencies, stressing that all the appointees were carefully selected based on merit and proven professionalism.
“They are all excellent professionals who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields.
“While I am convinced about the mature disposition of persons that will lead and function through the boards and parastatals, it will however be good to advise against any form of needless rivalry with the management of the agencies.
“The management of the institutions are encouraged to give every required support to the boards,” the Governor said.
Governor Otti assured the appointees that his administration has made adequate provisions for their welfare and operational effectiveness.
“You can take it for granted that whatever you need to perform effectively and meet the expectations that have been set for you shall be provided,” he assured.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the development of the State, Governor Otti stated that the government remains as committed, energetic, and determined as it was from the first day of the administration.
“We have the same commitment, enthusiasm and energy to keep on the pursuit of the same developmental objectives as we did on the very day of our inauguration.
“If anything at all has changed, it is the fact that we are hungrier and more determined to do even more for our people.
“We have only accomplished a fraction of what we intend to do, but the indisputable truth is that important irreversible progress has happened. The old wars of mediocrity and disease of non-performance are permanently broken, never to rise again,” Governor Otti declared.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated Chairmen and board members, the Chairman of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) Management Board and wife of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Mrs. Ezinne Chinyere Benjamin-Kalu, thanked Governor Otti for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their commitment to supporting the administration in achieving excellence across the various parastatals and agencies.
“Today is a day of profound honour, responsibility, and gratitude to me personally and to every member of the newly inaugurated boards.
“We are especially grateful to the Governor for bestowing us with such amount of trust and responsibility and his continuing desire for the transformation of all parastatals of the State,” she stated.
Mrs. Benjamin-Kalu noted that public service at that level demands sacrifice, accountability, dedication, and measurable results, assuring that the appointees would not take the responsibility lightly.
She further charged her colleagues to live up to expectations, noting that the institutions they now represent carry enormous responsibilities and the trust of the Abia State Government.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Commissioners, and other senior government appointees.
