Gov. Otti Unveils Plans for International Golf Resort in Abia as Abia Classic Golf, Country Club Pays Courtesy Visit
The Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, received a delegation from the Abia State Classic Golf and Country Club led by its Chairman, Architect Benson Ezem, at Government House, Umuahia.
Welcoming the visitors, Governor Otti thanked the leadership of the club for their unwavering support towards his administration’s transformation agenda. He reiterated that the achievements recorded so far are driven purely by a commitment to serve the people.
“The truth of the matter is that governance is not rocket science, but you cannot give what you do not have,” Governor Otti remarked. He urged Abians not to entrust governance to political “apprentices,” emphasizing that Abia cannot afford to regress after the progress achieved.
Speaking on his government’s sensitivity to gender balance, Governor Otti noted the significant contributions of women in his administration, humorously pointing out that the wife of the Deputy Governor, who graced the recent golf tournament, deserved special recognition.
Turning to infrastructure, the Governor spoke of his administration’s commitment to revitalizing Aba and its environs. He disclosed ongoing projects such as the reconstruction of Aba-Owerri Road, the new Asa Road fountain, and extensive solar street lighting to return Aba to its reputation as the “city that never sleeps.” He urged citizens to support government efforts by safeguarding public assets and paying their taxes promptly.
On the request for land to establish a Golf Resort around Umuahia, Governor Otti assured the delegation that the proposal would be given favorable consideration. He acknowledged the strategic and economic value of a golf estate, noting its potential to enhance tourism and attract elite investment to Abia State.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Abia Classic Golf and Country Club, Architect Benson Ezem, thanked the Governor for his massive infrastructural strides and for restoring pride among Abians. He particularly appreciated the Governor’s representation at the recent golf tournament through the Deputy 
Governor, His Excellency Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu.
Ezem presented the club’s request for approximately 120 hectares of land for the golf resort, highlighting the project’s significant economic, tourism, and social benefits to the
state.
In a vote of thanks, Chief Jerry Kalu (Oshimiri), a club member, lauded Governor Otti for his visionary leadership and encouraged him to continue on the path of positive transformation.
The meeting also had in attendance these club members, Mr. Oliver Maduka and Mr. Bill Amaech, alongside Honourable Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Nwaobilor Nwadimma Ananaba, Honourable Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, and Technical Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Charles Egonye.
