CDOWA, Abia Women Affairs Ministry Forge Strong Alliance To Deepen Women Empowerment
In a significant boost to women-focused advocacy and development in Abia State, the Civil Defence Officers’ Wives Association (CDOWA), Abia State Chapter , paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa in Umuahia.
The visit underscored CDOWA’s commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships and fostering collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare, empowerment, and socio-economic well-being of women across the state.The delegation was warmly received by the Commissioner, who described the visit as timely, encouraging, and a welcome step towards deeper synergy.
Welcoming the association, Dr. Aghukwa commended CDOWA for its dedication to social development, particularly its strong focus on women, families, and community-based interventions.
She noted that partnerships with credible, purpose-driven organisations such as CDOWA are critical to advancing the Ministry’s mandate of gender equality, women empowerment, and social inclusion in Abia State.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the CDOWA Desk Officer, Mrs. Rita Nwaogu, said the visit was to formally introduce CDOWA to the Ministry and to brief the Commissioner on the association’s vision, objectives, and ongoing activities.
She expressed the association’s desire to be actively involved in, and aligned with government programmes that promote women empowerment, welfare support, skills acquisition, and grassroots community development.
Mrs. Nwaogu further reaffirmed CDOWA’s resolve to complement government efforts through sustained advocacy, capacity-building initiatives, and targeted support programmes designed to uplift women and families, especially those in vulnerable communities.
In her response, Dr. Aghukwa expressed delight at the engagement and assured the delegation of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate closely with CDOWA and other women-focused organisations of proven integrity.
She emphasized that such partnerships would significantly strengthen policies and programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic fortunes of women across the state.
The visit concluded on a high note, with both parties expressing optimism about sustained engagement and a shared commitment to driving inclusive development and lasting empowerment for women in Abia State.
