ALBINISM
Abia First Lady Champions Inclusive Care As 400 Vulnerable Persons Receive Food And Cash Support
The Abia State Government, through the Office of the Wife of the Governor, has reaffirmed its strong commitment to inclusive governance and social protection with a major humanitarian intervention for vulnerable groups across the state.

At the outreach, 100 members of the Albinism Association of Nigeria, Abia State Chapter, received bags of rice and a cash grant of ₦50,000 each to support their wellbeing and livelihoods.

The intervention was further extended to 300 persons living with HIV/AIDS and sickle cell warriors, who also benefitted from similar food and financial assistance.
The event, held at the country home of the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, underscored the administration’s people-focused approach to governance.

Speaking at the occasion, Mrs. Otti said the initiative was driven by compassion and the conviction that true governance must be humane, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the most vulnerable.
She noted that while persons living with albinism face specific health challenges, particularly skin-related risks, individuals living with HIV/AIDS and sickle cell disorder also deserve care, dignity, and sustained support.

She disclosed that beyond food and financial assistance, her office has continued to provide persons living with albinism with essential protective materials to enhance their health and quality of life, assuring beneficiaries that such interventions would be sustained.
Mrs. Otti encouraged people living with HIV/AIDS and sickle cell warriors to remain hopeful, adhere strictly to their treatment, and be assured of the government’s unrelenting support.
According to her, the administration of Governor Alex C. Otti remains deliberate in balancing infrastructural development with robust social protection policies to ensure that no segment of society is left behind.
In her remarks, the Director-General of the Abia State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ABSACA), Dr. Uloaku Emma, praised Governor Otti’s consistent support for health-related initiatives, describing his leadership as people-centered and impactful.
She urged residents to continue supporting the present administration, noting that Abia State is witnessing renewed focus and tangible progress.
The Commissioners for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Ngozi Felix, and Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, commended the courage and resilience of persons living with albinism, HIV/AIDS, and sickle cell disorder.

They advised beneficiaries to prioritize their health, adhere to medical guidance, and leverage available government support systems.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of the Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Abia State, Mrs. Rebecca Eze, the Chairman of the Albinism Association of Nigeria, Abia State Chapter, Mr. Enyinnaya Nwosu, and a representative of sickle cell warriors, Miss Victoria, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Otti, describing the intervention as timely, impactful, and a clear demonstration of empathy-driven governance.

The outreach further reinforces the Abia State government’s resolve to deepen inclusive governance, strengthen social protection, and ensure that vulnerable groups remain a central focus of development efforts.
