ABIA AT 3: Lady Priscilla Otti Gifts 35 Brand-New Homes To Widows, Restores Hope And Dignity

 In a heartwarming demonstration of compassion and people-centered governance, the Wife of the Governor of Abia State and Founder of the Safe Haven Initiative, Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has officially handed over 35 newly built homes to widows across Abia State, rekindling hope and transforming lives.

The historic handover ceremony, held as part of activities marking the third anniversary of Governor Alex Otti’s administration, drew government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, and beneficiaries in an emotional gathering filled with gratitude and celebration.

Speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Mrs. Maureen Aghukwa, described the initiative as more than just the donation of buildings, calling it a powerful act of restoring dignity, security, and renewed hope to vulnerable women who have endured the harsh realities of widowhood.

“Today is not just about handing over buildings; it is about restoring dignity, giving hope, and putting smiles on the faces of women who have faced life’s challenges with courage and resilience,” Dr. Aghukwa stated.

She noted that widowhood often comes with emotional, economic, and social burdens, with access to decent shelter remaining one of the greatest challenges many widows face. According to her, the intervention by Mrs. Priscilla Otti represents not merely a housing project, but a life-changing gesture that provides comfort, safety, and stability for vulnerable families.

The Commissioner praised Mrs. Otti for her compassion and commitment to the welfare of women, especially widows, describing her as a leader with a “motherly heart” whose actions continue to touch lives meaningfully.
