The Abia State Government has pledged to enhance primary healthcare in the state, while strongly condemning the activities of unskilled traditional birth attendants,which contributes to high maternal and child mortality rates.
He made this statement during the Q3 2025 Taskforce Meeting on Primary Health Care which held in his office at Government House Umuahia,Capital City
Engr. Emetu emphasized the need for the State Primary Health Care Development Agency to work with stakeholders to educate young people on reproductive health. He also expressed gratitude to primary healthcare workers and partners for their efforts in providing quality healthcare services.
The Deputy Governor noted Government’s commitment to enhancing primary healthcare is evident in its efforts to improve healthcare services, particularly at the grassroots level.
Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Ngozi Felix, emphasized the need for accessible facilities and disability-friendly healthcare services to promote equity and social inclusion.
Also speaking Executive Secretary of the Abia State Primary Healthcare Agency, Dr. Kalu U. Kalu, expressed gratitude to the Governor and State Ministry of Health for their support, noting that it will strengthen primary healthcare infrastructure and promote health education.
The meeting featured goodwill messages from partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the World Bank, highlighting the collaborative effort to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
