Permanent Secretaries Admonished To Maintain High Ethical Standards In The Discharge Of Their Duties

A one day sensitization program on assets declaration and code of conduct for permanent secretaries in the State public Service has ended with a call on them to maintain high ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.

The State head of service , Dr Mrs Ngozi Obioma  made the call in a sensitization training on assets declaration and code of conduct at Micheal Okpara Auditorium Umuahia.

She stressed the need for the permanent secretaries to declare their assets as demanded by law adding that their position as permanent secretaries is strategic in giving good example to the younger officers.

In his lecture,the resource person and the State Director , code of conduct bureau,Mr Abel Sunday said the purpose of the training on code of conduct and assets declaration is to educate the permanent secretaries on the need to declare their assets as well as inform them of the behavior expected of every pubic officer in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Sunday disclosed that there are 14 code of conducts for public officers in which assets declaration is the eleventh code adding that going contrary to any of them attracts severe sanctions ranging from dismissal from office to denial of pubic office for ten years among others and urged them to avoid the temptation of defaulting on the rules of the conduct.

He reminded the permanent secretaries that they are the image of the State and their actions can make or mar the state .

He,however, maintained that declaration of their assets is a necessity that must be done in order not to be prosecuted at the code of conduct Tribunal.
