Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, wife of the Governor of Abia State, witnessed the proposed bill, H.A.B 25, at the State House of Assembly. The bill which aims to establish a Centre for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Rape, Defilement, and Domestic Violence in Abia State.
If enacted, the bill will provide crucial support to victims of gender-based violence. Here are some key provisions of the bill. Victims will receive prompt medical attention and psychological support to help them cope with the trauma.
Long-term counseling and rehabilitation programs will be tailored to meet individual recovery needs, ensuring holistic support.
Victims will receive guidance and support throughout the justice process, facilitating access to legal recourse.
Further more,the centre will promote awareness through research and advocacy, aiming to prevent rape, abuse, and domestic violence.The centre will work with relevant agencies and organizations to improve service delivery and overall support for victims.
This bill is a significant step towards addressing gender-based violence in Abia State.
