A Resolution Call On Immediate Actions To Arrest Gully Erosion In Akara-Isukwuato Road
The State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the State Government to as a matter of urgency to reach out to the federal government and also through its relevant agencies to intervene on the issue of erosion gullies ravaging various sections of the state.
The Speaker Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa who announced the resolution on Tuesday, Oct 8th, following a Matter of Urgent Public Importance brought before the House by the member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency, Chief Lucky Johnson on the collapse of the Akara – Isuikwuato road and destruction of properties around the Amaiyi axis thereby cutting off those living along that area from their kits and kins.
Chief Johnson plead to the House to resolve this and urged the government to come to their aid in terms of interventions from NEWMAP, the ministry of Environment and others as well as remediation and palliative support as their means of livelihood has also been greatly affected.
The Speaker further directed the House Committee on Environment to bring up workable plans on engaging with the relevant agencies to address the concerns including a campaign on tree planting by NEWMAP.
The House also passed a resolution directing its Committee on Health to invite the Commissioner for Health, the Proprietor of City Gate Mortuary, Umuahia and any other such mortuaries whose activities are considered to be negatively affecting the public for an interaction.
This followed a Matter of Urgent Public Importance presented to the House by the member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Chief Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu on the nuisance being constituted daily along the Aba road , Umuahia by the activities of the mortuary and others operating in like manner in the state and called for urgent steps to address the situation.
