The Governor of Abia State,Dr Alex Chioma Otti, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Deaconess Oluchi Lovina Anyanwu, describing her as a woman of faith, selfless service, and enduring legacy, during her burial ceremony in Ossah, Ibeku.
Addressing mourners,the Governor who was represented by his Deputy Governor,Engr Ikechukwu Emetu, extended deep condolences to the Anyanwu family and all affected by her passing, noting that her life was one to be celebrated and thanked to God.
Quoting Ecclesiastes, he reminded attendees that “there is a time for everything under heaven… a time to be born and a time to die,” urging acceptance of God’s will even in the midst of grief.
Otti, highlighted that the late Deaconess, who lived a remarkable 95 years, was a pillar in both church and community. Known for her humility, kindness, and unwavering devotion, she positively touched countless lives through her faith and moral example. While her passing brings sorrow, the Deputy Governor observed that her long life allowed her to witness the fruits of her labor through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who are poised to carry forward her legacy of love, integrity, and faith.
Describing her as a matriarch and custodian of tradition, he encouraged the family to take comfort and not mourn without hope, emphasizing that her impactful life remains a lasting testament. He also urged attendees to reflect on purposeful living, genuine love, and faithful service to God, stressing that the true measure of life lies in the impact one leaves behind, not merely in its length. On behalf of the government and people of Abia State, he prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and the Ossah community.
Earlier during the burial, the officiating minister,Pst Festus .N.Awuloha, delivered a sermon titled “Life After Death”, drawing from Hebrews 9:27: “It is appointed unto man to die once, and after that, judgment.” The cleric commended Deaconess Anyanwu for living with the consciousness of giving account before God, a mindset that guided her daily actions and enabled her to positively influence those around her. He encouraged attendees to surrender their lives to Christ, highlighting Him as the path to living a righteous and accountable life.
In a moving tribute, her son, Deacon Obinna Onyekwere, described his mother as a virtuous woman whose life was defined by faith, diligence, and selfless service. Born on November 14, 1930, in Ossah, Umuahia North, she supported her family through sewing, catering, and trading, instilling values of discipline, hard work, and devotion to God in her children.
Obinna further highlighted her spiritual devotion, noting that she consistently led her family in prayer and sought divine guidance before every undertaking.
He praised her leadership in both church and community, where she served as women’s ministry treasurer, leader, and later matron. Remembered as kind, compassionate, and a peacemaker, Deaconess Anyanwu leaves behind a legacy of faith and service that will continue to inspire generations.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul as she was committed to mother earth, marking the end of a life lived with purpose, devotion, and enduring impact.
