The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ) Abia State has commend

ed Wife of the Abia State Governor,Mrs Priscilla Otti for her compassion, concern and philanthrophic gesture to Abia women and the less privileged in the society.
In a Press Release issued in Umuahia and signed by the Chairperson and Secretary of the Association, Comrades Josephine Ogwo and Sally Anyaso respectively, NAWOJ particularly expressed delight at the quick visitation to a domestic violence victim,Mrs Amarachi Lawrence who was severely brutalized a fortnight ago by her husband,Mr Lawrence Chukwukere at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.
Comrade Josephine Ogwo and Comrade Sally Anyaso who expressed disgust at the inhuman treatment meted on Mrs Amarachi Lawrence by her husband as well as Mrs Lovejane Nwami their landlady called on the authorities to ensure that justice is served.
According to them,the Idea by the Abia First Lady of the need to establish a functional Gender Based Violence team in the State to checkmate cases of domestic violence against women and girl child is a welcome development.
The Women Journalists therefore implored Mrs Priscilla Otti to expedite action in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs in constituting Gender Based Violence team at the State level and across the 17 Local Government Areas to effectively monitor the rising cases of domestic violence.
The Abia State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ)also doffed their hats for Mrs Priscilla Otti for paying the hospital bill of six indigent persons totaling over 3 million naria last Thursday when she visited the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia to mark International Day of Charity.
Such gesture the Association noted was not only heart warming but a demonstration that the office of the Abia State First Lady and the Administration of Governor Alex Otti care for the welfare and wellbeing of Abians especially the less privileged.
They urged the Abia First Lady to continue with her good spirited gestures to the down trodden in the society and assured her that Abia NAWOJ will partner her office in the crusade against Gender Based Violence.
