Voice for the Voiceless : Abia’s Norah Okafor Inducted As Global Ambassador For Girls And Women’s Rights
In a landmark moment for gender advocacy in Nigeria, Abia-born broadcaster and passionate women’s rights advocate, Norah Nneoma Okafor, has been officially inaugurated as a Girls and Women Speak Ambassador, joining a prestigious global network of changemakers championing the empowerment and rights of women and girls.
The inauguration ceremony, hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, was organized by the Peace Ambassadors Advocacy Network, an affiliate of the United Nations.
The high-impact event saw the induction of over 500 ambassadors and featured the presence of UN delegates, top government officials, diplomats, civil society leaders, and gender rights advocates.
With over 17 years of experience in broadcast journalism, Okafor currently serves as the Abia State Correspondent for ARISE News. She is widely known for her bold reporting and her dedicated commitment to social change, especially through her work with her NGO, Protect the Precious Foundation. Her foundation focuses on empowering vulnerable girls and women, particularly in underserved and rural communities.
She is also the convener of the highly celebrated Abia Girls Summit, also known as “Hey Girls, Can We Talk?”—Nigeria’s largest gathering dedicated to raising the self-worth, voice, and visibility of girls.
In her emotional post-inauguration remarks, Norah said:
“This induction is not just an honor; it’s a deeper call to action. It’s a commitment to do more—to speak louder, fight harder, and stand stronger for women and girls, particularly those who are too often unheard.”
She dedicated the prestigious title to young women in her home state, saying:
“This is for every girl whose voice has been silenced, and every woman who dreams beyond the walls society has built. I remain committed to fighting for an inclusive society, leveraging Sustainable Development Goal 5—gender equality.”
The convener of the Peace Ambassadors Advocacy Network, Ambassador Kingsley Onuche, encouraged the newly inducted ambassadors to rise to the occasion with purpose, heart, and impact.
“As ambassadors, you are now part of a growing movement of change-makers determined to shape a better, more inclusive future. Let your voice be loud, your actions bold, and your leadership unwavering,” Onuche charged.
The Girls and Women Speak Ambassadors initiative aims to equip influential women leaders across the globe with the tools, platforms, and visibility needed to champion gender equality, peace-building, innovation, and social justice.
