Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has commissioned the newly constructed Aba North administrative office complex and other projects carried out by the Mayor of Aba North, Ide John Udeagbala.
Commissioning the projects at Eziama, the Council Headquarters, Governor Otti commended the Mayor for completing the administrative block and other developmental projects in record time.
The Governor noted that his administration was deliberate in choosing Mayors of the 17 LGAs of the state and expressed happiness that non of them disappointed the confidence reposed in them. He announced that the State government would continue to engage the outgoing Mayors who have performed well.
“In this 12 months, I can say that our experience as a government is positive with the Mayors. That is why we choose people who have delivered, who have a name to protect and I’m happy that it has turned out this way.”
“All the Mayors that have done well, we are going to continue to engage them in this government because we need people who can perform” Gov. Otti assured.
The Governor acknowledged the bad state of the Osisioma interchange built and commissioned in 2022 by the immediate past administration and said that he has instructed the Commissioner for works to move in with his team for the immediate repair of the failing sections.
“We don’t want the bridge to collapse. We do not know why two years after commissioning, the bridge would be caving in but we’ll find out and we’ll repair it”.
“We strongly believe that government is a continuum and if there is anything that was not done properly, we will go there and fix it” Otti stated.
The State chief Executive assured of his intention to restore Aba to its former glory as a hub of industry and stated that he has directed his team to commence rehabilitation of connecting roads, as the major roads in the commercial nerve centre have undergone rehabilitation.
“All those streets off Port Harcourt road, all the Streets off Azikiwe road, they will soon receive our touch. By next month, we will give a facelift to Aba Owerri road and all the way into Umungasi and beautify it” Governor Otti assured.
While reaffirming his commitment to inclusive governance, Dr. Otti noted that Abia State welcomes all, irrespective of their state of origin and thanked the people for their steadfast support and urged them to actively participate in the upcoming local government election and vote for candidates of their choice, irrespective of party affiliations.
In their speeches, the member representating Aba North State Constituency, Hon. Aaron Uzodike and the President General Anambra Development Union in Aba, Chief Emmanuel Nwaka commended Governor Otti for the projects done.
They appreciated the Governor for finding Ide John Udeagbala worthy for the position of Mayor of Aba North LGA and said that they are proud of Ide Udeagbala.
Earlier in his address, the Mayor of Aba North recalled that the Council Headquarters was faced with the shame of having no office accommodation, which has impacted negatively on the productivity of the staff. He said that he carried out the projects to replicate the works being done in the State by Governor Alex Otti, disclosing that some of the projects carried out included administrative block, roads, repair of Abia state pedestrian bridge, renovation of maternity and provision of solar energy cold room for storage of vaccine among others.
The Mayor thanked Governor Otti and said that the projects could not have been possible without the support of the Governor, who he said never declined any or his requests.
The event attracted the presence of the members of Abia State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, some LGA Mayors, traditional Rulers captains of industry among other dignitaries.
