Optometric Society Seeks Government’s Support

...commends Governor Otti's developmental strides

The Nigerian Optometric
Association has commended Governor Otti ‘s led administration for the transformation that has taken place in and around the State in less than two years of his administration.

The Chairman, Abia State chapter of the Nigerian Optometric Association, Dr. Ogbonna Onyedikachi disclosed this when she led her group to a courtesy call on the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Calab Ajagba in Government House, Umuahia.
She also sought collaborations with the state government to strengthen healthcare.

“We commend the efforts of the Abia State Government in priotizing healthcare, particularly in the renovation and retrofitting of General Hospital facilities across the state.

“We believe that our association can collaborate with the state government to strengthen eye care services in these facilities,”

She added that they were in government house to seek government’s assistance to enable the organisation host its 48th international annual conference coming up from 23rd – 26th of July, 2025 at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.

Responding to the group, the Chief of Staff to the Governor,Pastor Caleb Ajagba commended the Nigerian Optometric Association for the choice of Abia state for the conference, adding that it is a very  worthwhile choice.

He highlighted some modest achievements of Governor Alex Otti in less than two years in office including retrofitting of hospitals, establishment of Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau among others and appreciated the group for her professionalism examplified by the works of the Administrator, Eye Health Management Bureau,,Dr. Betty Emeka -Obasi.

“In the primary health sector, we have a total of 948 primary health centres and the first phase is about 200 of them which are being retrofitted and within 100 days, they will all be ready for commissioning.

“We have listened to quite a number of things that you asked for, the assistance that you need in order to make sure that the over 2000 delegates that you are expecting are well taken care of.

“Of course His Excellency is committed to that , and I want to assure you that every necessary support that  will enable you have a very productive international conference, the support will be made available to you.

“Working with the Senior Special Assistant, who is also your member, I believe that the right structures will be put in place to make sure it works.

“Of course security is not to be taken for granted because Abia is quite safe. So I’m sure as you move around, you will see that there is no cause for alarm,” Pst. Ajagba stated.

He assured them that the state government would give them the necessary support in ensuring the success of the event.
