FG Showcases Tinubu’s Midterm Achievements In Abia

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Idris Muhammad, has called the attention of Abians and the entire South East to the remarkable achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration, particularly as they impact the region.

Speaking at a town hall meeting and sensitization program organized by the Federal Information Centre, Umuahia, on Thursday, August 25, 2025, at the Police Officers Mess, the Minister ably represented by Lady Gloria Ify Abiakam, Head of Centre, FIC Umuahia reaffirmed that the Renewed Hope Agenda is deliberately prioritizing the South East across sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.

He highlighted projects such as the cassava bio-ethanol plant in Enugu, the First Lady’s agricultural empowerment program, cancer centres at UNTH Enugu, mother-and-child hospitals in Abia and Imo, the Second Niger Bridge, and ongoing expressway upgrades linking Enugu, Port Harcourt, Onitsha, Aba, and Ikot Ekpene.

He urged Abians to embrace these interventions and spread awareness at state, local, and community levels so that no one is left out.

In her remarks, Lady Abiakam emphasized that President Tinubu’s government has rolled out “programmes to better the lives of women, men, youths, traders, farmers, students, and every Nigerian, including the Students Loan Scheme, Consumer Credit Corporation, Nano-business support, and Digital/Creative Enterprises programs.

The program drew wide participation from stakeholders.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, represented by his aide Hon. Mike Ukoha, urged the South East not to dwell on marginalization rhetoric, stressing that President Tinubu’s administration has given the zone unprecedented recognition—including three new federal higher institutions in one day. He said insecurity must be tackled collectively and urged Igbos to fully embrace available opportunities.

Comrade Sam Odittah,Zonal Head of the News Agency of Nigeria, outlined milestones including the launch of 2,000 tractors and thousands of farming tools, approval of $3 billion for Eastern rail lines, and ongoing work on over 440 road projects nationwide, including Aba–Port Harcourt and Aba–Ikot Ekpene roads.

Mrs. Regina Iroha, Zonal Director of the National Orientation Agency, lamented the apathy of South Easterners towards federal interventions, especially the refusal to access the Students Loan Scheme.

She , however, called for a “complete re-indoctrination of mindsets” to ensure the region takes ownership of government opportunities.

From the religious community, Rev. Dr. Francis Okere, representing Abia State CAN President, thanked the President but warned that insecurity must be addressed if Nigeria is to progress.

He called for government messages to be passed through CAN, Muslim organizations, and traditional structures for effective grassroots sensitization.

Similarly, Sheikh Ali Ukaiwo, head of the Muslim community in Abia, appealed to government to confront insecurity at its sources and revive rail transportation.

Traditional leaders also spoke. HRH Eze Boniface Izuogu, traditional ruler of Olokoro, described President Tinubu as the “engine driver of the nation,” calling for patience and equitable distribution of infrastructure.

Apostle Agomuo, Pilgrim Board Chairman, acknowledged hunger and hardship, urging urgent action on refineries and food security.

Across the two-day sensitization program, the common message was clear: while President Tinubu’s administration has rolled out tangible projects and reforms across the South East, stakeholders insist that awareness, inclusivity, and consistent grassroots communication are vital for citizens to fully benefit.

The following day, Friday, August 22, 2025, the sensitization continued with a statewide rally, led by Lady Abiakam and her team of Federal Information Centre staff, starting from the Government House Umuahia.

They distributed fliers and leaflets on the President’s sectoral achievements, engaging directly with traders, market women, students, artisans, and the general public.

The rally attracted large crowds, with residents eagerly asking questions and expressing both appreciation and concerns. Many praised the agricultural and youth empowerment initiatives, while also urging government to intensify efforts to cushion economic hardship.

The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation affirmed that similar sensitization drives will continue across the South East and beyond, to ensure Nigerians are not only aware of but also actively participate in government programmes.
