Federal Road Safety Corps Moves To Reinforce Discipline, Vows Zero Tolerance For Corruption In Abia
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has reminded officers and men of the Corps that the organisation was not established merely to enforce traffic laws but fundamentally to save lives and serve the public with integrity.
The Corps Marshal made this known in a message delivered at a sensitization programme on Discipline, Reinforcement and Strengthening of Command and Control held in Umuahia, Abia State.
He stressed that public trust remains the bedrock of the Corps’ authority and effectiveness.
Represented at the event by the Corps Commander (Medical), Headquarters, Mr. Paul Ogoegbunam, the Corps Marshal described extortion, harassment, abuse of authority and other operational misconducts as unacceptable and a direct betrayal of the oath sworn by personnel.
He noted that such unethical practices erode public confidence, damage the image painstakingly built over the years, and weaken the integrity of the service.
“The Corps was not created merely to enforce traffic laws. We were established to save lives and serve the Nigerian people with integrity. Once public trust is compromised, our effectiveness is compromised,” he stated.
He further explained that the deployment of senior officers to various commands was not a routine administrative exercise but a deliberate corrective measure aimed at strengthening discipline, reinforcing leadership accountability and restoring the Corps’ core values of professionalism, transparency and service.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, reaffirmed the commitment of the Abia State Sector Command (RS9.3) to the Corps’ mandate of creating a safer motoring environment in Nigeria.
She disclosed that despite operational challenges, the command has intensified patrol activities, sustained public enlightenment campaigns, strengthened stakeholder engagement and enhanced enforcement of traffic regulations across the state.
Mrs. Ezeoma described the sensitization programme as timely and significant, noting that it provides an opportunity for introspection, performance review and alignment with the strategic vision of the Corps leadership.
The lecture, titled “The Immediate Reinforcement of Command and Control and Total Eradication of Corruption and Operational Abuses,” was held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the FRSC RS9.3 Abia State Sector Command Multi-Purpose Hall, Umuahia.
The event forms part of ongoing efforts by the FRSC leadership to reposition the Corps for greater efficiency, accountability and improved service delivery to Nigerians.
Participants at the programme were urged to embrace higher standards of discipline, teamwork and operational effectiveness in order to uphold the credibility and public trust the Corps has earned over the years.
