Abia State Launches Startup Bill 2025 to Drive Digital Innovation and Job Creation
The Abia State Government has formally launched the Abia State Startup Bill 2025, a pioneering initiative aimed at harnessing technology to enhance the state’s ecosystem and drive economic growth. The launch, which coincided with the Abia Tech and Innovation Summit, took place at the Ochendo International Conference Center, Umuahia.
Governor Alex Otti, represented by his Deputy, Chief Ikechukwu Emetu, emphasized that the portal will create pathways for innovators to solve real-world problems, improve products through technology, planning, and accountability, and expand access to digital job creation.
“The launching defines the State Government’s approach towards technology development, powered by a single Integrated Technology backbone, anchored on economic resilience, knowledge, and innovation data processing,” he said.
The Governor commended the Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. David Kalu, and partners for their efforts in ensuring Abia State’s participation in the Startup Bill. He assured that the State Government will continue to invest in inventors’ ideas to enhance productivity.
In his remarks,Commissioner for Science Technology and Innovation,Dr David Kalu ,highlighted that the Startup Bill will harness the potential of young innovators, support the technology and innovation ecosystem, and position Abia State as a leading startup hub in Nigeria.
“The bill will go a long way in supporting the growth of startups and promoting innovation in the state,” he said.
In their respective contributions,Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mrs. Justina Eboh, Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Economy, Elizabeth Chibuzor, and Chairman, Abia Tech Innovation, Mr. Daniel Chinagozie, disclosed that Abia State is the first state in Nigeria to assent to the Bill. They noted that the Ministry of Science and Technology, in conjunction with partners, engaged stakeholders on the importance of the Bill before its passage.
The ceremony featured cash awards to the top three winners of the Abia State Arthon Innovators Team, goodwill messages, and panel discussions, attracting top government officials and partners.
