The State House of Assembly on Tuesday 24th February 2026 passed a resolution directing its Committees on Works and Environment to interface with the Ministries of Works and that of Environment to urgently find a way of mitigating the threats of erosion across the state.
The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Augustine Okezie who announced this while presiding at plenary said this has become necessary as a lot of communities across the state are now being faced with one form of land degradation or the other, and stressed the need for urgent attention to the situation.
The resolution followed a Matter of Urgent Public Importance brought before the House by the member representing Ohafia South State Constituency, Hon. Kalu Nwoke on the erosion and landslide ravaging Ndi – Ikpo compound in Ndi Uduma Awoke, Akanu as well as Isugwu Ohafia in Ania ward which has continued to threaten the lives and property of the people and called for urgent attention to address the situation.
Also in another Matter of Urgent Public Importance, the member for Ikwuano State Constituency, Hon. Boniface Isienyi informing the House of the deplorable condition of the Obunta – Obu ukwu road in Oboro, Ikwuano, which is the major route leading to their market, health facilities and linking the community with their neighbours and called for urgent attention as the area is being faced by serious erosion challege.
The House at plenary adopted the reports of its Committee on Public Accounts, Anti – Corruption and Due Process on the 2023 and 2024 Audit Reports on the Accounts of the State Government, after considering it at its Committee of the whole.
The House further received the report of its joint Committee of Health and Women Affairs on H.A.B. 25, A Bill for a law to establish a centre for the rehabilitation of victims of rape, defilement and domestic violence in the state and other related matters and committed same to its Committee of the whole
The lawmakers later adjourned their sitting to reconvene on Wednesday 25/2/2026
