The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has inaugurated a 23-member committee responsible for organizing the proposed Aba International Trade Fair. The inauguration took place on September 2, 2025 at Government House Umuahia capital city.
Engr. Emetu noted that the trade fair is the second to be done by Dr. Alex Otti’s administration and urged the committee to aim higher and do better than the previous one. He emphasized that the fair should represent what Abia stands for and provide an opportunity for businessmen, industrialists, and investors to see what Abia can offer.
He highlighted that the committee is tasked with ensuring the trade fair’s success, including proper publicity through media outlets; broadcast and print, social media, as well as engagement with mayors and traditional rulers.
He exposed that the trade fair will be funded through the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, and handled jointly by the Aba Chamber of Commerce and the newly formed Umuahia Chamber of Commerce. He stressed that the committee’s success is expected to bring significant benefits to Abia State, including increased investment and economic growth. .
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce, Trade and Investment, Chief Nwaka Inem, thanked the Deputy Governor for inaugurating the committee and emphasized the importance of incorporating the Aba Chamber of Commerce in the planning process.
He noted that the last Aba Intl trade fair should serve as a template to guide and enable improvement in forthcoming tradefair.
Also speaking, the President of the Aba Chamber of Commerce, Geoffrey Uzoagbara, noted that the proposed 2025 Aba International Trade Fair will be the 18th trade fair done in Abia by the chamber. He pointed out that the chamber of commerce has always funded the trade but however welcome the interest of the Dr Alex Otti led Government in Partnering with them which he noted was of immense benefit to both parties. Mr Uzoagbara highlighted that the Aba Intl tradefair is an initiative that will give visibility to the state businesswise.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by committee members, and top government officials including the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Hon. Kinsley Nwokocha.
