The Abia State Government has organised a one-day intensive security workshop and training for Container Unloader Unions in Aba, aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering and boosting the overall security of the state.
The workshop, held on Tuesday at Panyu Hotels & Resort Limited, Aba, carried the theme “Partnership Between Government and Frontline Unloaders: Threat, Communication and Information Management.”
Declaring the event open, Governor Dr. Alex Otti, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, urged all residents to actively support the state’s security efforts.
“Aba is known for the strength of its commerce, and we all have a role to play in making it safe and secure. A workshop like this demonstrates our government’s commitment to creating a decent and thriving society,” Governor Otti stated.
The Governor assured participants of his administration’s resolve to transform Aba into the industrial hub it deserves to be, emphasizing that success in security requires collective effort between government, citizens, and security agencies.
President of the Association of International Traders (AIT), Prince Edmund Igwe, described the workshop as a direct outcome of their engagement with the governor, lauding Dr. Otti’s administration for ending decades of hardship that previously drove many traders and investors out of Aba.
Participants—including Comrade Francis Azubuike, Chairman of Newlife Container Unloaders Aba; Gabriel Ogali, Chairman of Goodhope International Company; and Mr. Nwaibu Sylvester—commended the government, calling the workshop “the first of its kind” and noting that it will strengthen collaboration and improve the security landscape of Aba and the entire state.
The event was attended by top government officials and security representatives, including the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the Governor’s personal physician Dr. Idika Idika, as well as delegates from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
