The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has declared the Amangwu Ohafia Primary Health Centre open for full operation under the state’s Project Ekwueme Primary Health Centre Revitalisation Initiative.
Speaking at the ceremony in Ohafia LGA, Emetu, said the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare and ensuring that quality medical services are accessible at the grassroots.
He described primary healthcare as the foundation of a functional health system, noting that the revitalised facility will provide affordable and timely services to mothers, children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups in the community.
He added that Project Ekwueme ,an initiative from the administration of Dr Alex Chioma Otti , is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade and equip Primary Health Centres across the state, improve service delivery, and rebuild public confidence in government health institutions.
The Deputy Governor urged healthcare workers to maintain professionalism and compassion in their duties, while calling on residents to take ownership of the facility and protect it for future generations.
In their goodwill messages, the Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Chief Nleanya Ojuu Kalu, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifenyinwa Uma Kalu, commended the state government for refurbishing and functionalising health centres across various LGAs, noting that Amangwu and Ihenta communities are key beneficiaries.
They said the upgraded centre would enhance access to quality healthcare for women and children and appealed to residents to safeguard the facility from vandalism. They also encouraged eligible citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to actively participate in the electoral process and sustain development.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Kalu Ulu Kalu, alongside the Secretary of the Health Authority, Mrs. Rachael, expressed satisfaction with the revitalisation of the facility.
They pointed out that good leadership breeds good governance and assured the people that the Otti-led administration has more developmental projects in store for the state.
The programme culminated in the formal functionalisation and inspection of the health facility by the Deputy Governor in the company of other government officials.
