Abia First Lady Touches Lives At Amaudo Mental Health Facility And Uzuakoli Leprosy Settlement

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Maureen Aghukwa, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Abia State Government to the welfare of the most vulnerable members of society, as she represented the Wife of the Governor, Her Excellency Mrs Priscilla Otti, on humanitarian visits to the Amaudo Mental Health Facility, Itumbauzo, and the Uzoakoli Leprosy Settlement.

Speaking during a church service at the Amaudo Mental Health Facility, Dr Aghukwa conveyed the warm greetings and motherly love of Her Excellency, Mrs Priscilla Otti, assuring the residents that they are neither forgotten nor neglected.

“Her Excellency, the Wife of the Governor, asked me to remind you that you matter to this government. Beyond governance, this administration is driven by compassion, dignity of human beings , and care for those society often overlooks,” she said.

She noted that the gifts of foodstuff and essential items presented were a reflection of the Governor’s vision of inclusive governance, where development goes hand in hand with empathy.She also highlighted the ongoing construction of the long-neglected access road to the facility as proof that the administration listens and responds to genuine needs.

The Very Reverend Ken Nwaubani, who conducted the church service and received the items on behalf of the facility, expressed profound gratitude to the Governor and his wife.

“We are deeply encouraged, not just by these generous provisions, but by the road project which has brought renewed hope to this home.
This government has shown that leadership can truly be humane,” he said.

From Amaudo, the delegation proceeded to the Uzuakoli Leprosy Settlement, where residents also received food items and other essentials from Her Excellency.
Delivering her message, Dr Aghukwa emphasized that the present administration remains steadfast in improving lives across all sectors.

“The Governor is rebuilding Abia through strategic investments in roads, schools, health centres, and social welfare.
Even as infrastructure advances, he has ensured that care for the vulnerable remains a priority,” she stated.

The Reverend Emeka, who oversees the settlement, received the delegation with thanksgiving and prayers.
“These visits restore hope and affirm our humanity.

We thank the Governor and his wife for remembering us and for extending governance beyond offices into places of need,” he said.

the visit as a powerful reminder that compassionate leadership is alive in Abia State.
