The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has intensified efforts to uphold quality standards in the ongoing upgrade of public schools, leading an inspection of the remodeled Ogbo Primary School, Ubakala, in Umuahia South Local Government Area.
The visit formed part of a statewide monitoring exercise to ensure that educational infrastructure projects comply with approved specifications and align with the government’s Smart School initiative.
Received by Mrs. Orieji Emele, Managing Director of Blue Giraffe, the executing firm, the Deputy Governor was taken on a tour of the transformed facility, now redesigned as a modern, technology-driven learning environment.
The upgraded school accommodates 300 primary pupils and 90 nursery pupils, with expansion capacity. Facilities include 10 primary classrooms, three nursery classrooms, and three overflow classrooms, alongside a sick bay, a fully air-conditioned ICT laboratory equipped with 30 all-in-one computer systems and a dedicated server room, a staff office, a library/resource centre, a centralized CCTV monitoring room, and 16 convenience rooms.
Safety features such as clearly marked fire exits, an emergency evacuation plan and muster point, an on-site fire hydrant system, and a modern playground were also inspected.
Commending the quality of work, Engr. Emetu said the project demonstrates the administration’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for academic excellence and holistic development.
The inspection team also assessed City Primary School, School Road, Umuahia, in Umuahia North Local Government Area, which is earmarked for transformation into a Smart School. The visit enabled officials to evaluate existing infrastructure and determine the scope of intervention required to meet smart learning standards.
The Deputy Governor reaffirmed the government’s resolve to ensure that investments in public education yield measurable improvements in teaching and learning outcomes across the state.
